AdeKo is the short form for ¡°German - Korean Alumni Network¡±. It is worldwide the first network of Korean Alumni who studied and did excellent and outreaching research in Germany. True to its motto ¡°Connecting - Strengthening - Advancing¡±, it offers a platform for everybody who is interested in the promotion and further development of German-Korean relations in the field of politics, economy, science and technology and last but not least culture and arts.
The network aims at the support and further development of the German-Korean relations.
It only pursues non-profit goals. ADeKo¡¯s first objective is to connect and strengthen the 47 existing Alumni Associations.
The idea of a nationwide network of Korean Alumni who studied in Germany, existed for years. Therefore, the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) complied the request and supported the realization of the ¡°German - Korean Alumni Network (ADeKo)¡° financially. Staff of the DAAD and the German Embassy in Seoul implemented the project in the beginning. Patrons of the project were the German ambassador Dr. Norbert Baas and Dr.-Ing. Lee, Chun-Shik of KIST Europe. Adviser in legal affairs was Prof. Dr. Shin, Yu-Cheol (Chungnam National University).
The project was funded for a project period of 3 years by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (April 2006 - December 2008). This financial support has been prolonged twice for 2 years (January 2009 - December 2010, January 2011 - December 2012).
Currently 47 scientific, regional and Korean-German Alumni Associations exist in Korea. The presidents of these Alumni Associations were members of the ADeKo-Foundation-Committee and regard ADeKo as addition to their activities. Since its official inception, it is also funded by various sponsors as well as membership revenue.
